About

Welcome! I’m Jennifer aka Bacon & Spice

I was a talented self taught cook, award winning recipe writer & organic hobby farmer who decided to chase a dream and go to French culinary school in Sydney, Australia. I’m proud to say I am now a chef, mom to a gluten free kiddo & wife to a wonderful outdoorsman hubby.

I believe in delicious food made from real food ingredients! All my recipes are kid friendly, tested on friends & family and best of all they are now officially chef approved!

I’ve had a crazy health journey which sort of started me on this path. I try to focus on food that my body needs, ingredients that make me feel good and desserts that are just a little bit better for you.

Back in 2012 I had pancreatitis with no known cause followed by triple tangled intestines (a form of cecal volvulus) in 2013 which sent me to the ER 3 times in 5 days. They finally decided to call in a surgeon on my 3rd visit due to the symptoms and pain I was in and I ended up giving the surgeon quite a shock as he performed an unexpected emergency cecopexy to save my life. I was a long distance runner and started experiencing stomach & back pain after runs which led to that situation. Our dealt with bad mold exposure in previous home we owned which had a significant impact on my health & our son’s. He developed PANDAS/PANS but thanks to some amazing Drs he has been in remission for nearly 7years. Since that home with hidden mold I am more reactive and at times have symptoms similar to MCAS (mast cell activation disorder) and also h-EDS (Ehlers-Danlos hypermobility disorder) though I have not been officially tested or diagnosed with either. I am also a long hauler with SIBO and manage my symptoms through diet. Since my intestine surgery I have developed symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia so I need to be careful I am eating & exercising to maintain healthy blood sugar.

Anyway, enough about me! I am so happy you are here and please excuse any website errors as I navigate all this tech on my own!
